National Level Webinar on Gender Equity & Covid 19: Women, Labour and Informal Sector
Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce & Science in association with Women's Development Cell, University of Mumbai organised one day National Level Webinar on Gender Equity & Covid 19: Women, Labour and Informal Sector on Thursday, 14th May 2020. The session was started with the national anthem being played and the welcome speech was given by Dr. Alpa Upadhyay, Co-convenor WDC, NMFC. Then I/C Principal Ms. Swiddle D'Cunha highlighted that time has come for women to be strong and bold and no pandemic can stop her from growing. Opening remarks were given by Dr. Gita Chaddha, Chairperson, Women Development Cell, University of Mumbai. The Resource person for the session was Dr. Vibhuti Patel, Professor, Advanced Centre for Women's Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Dr. Vibhuti Patel highlighted the situation of women during Covid 19 pandemic and the effects of this on behaviour and mental health of the women. Apart from this her talk focused on the state of women in informal sector as this pandemic has led to loss of jobs, increase in domestic violence and increased mental health issues. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Meher Bhoot, Member Secretary, Women Development Cell, University of Mumbai. There were 226 participants from 12 different states and 10 different universities. Thus, the webinar was a grant success due to support from our Management, Academic Director, Principal, WDC Convenor and Committee members and Technical team.
