National Reading Day 2025

The Library Advisory Committee celebrated National Reading Day on Thursday, 19th June, 2025. It is a day that honours the life and work of P. N. Panicker, who is widely regarded as the Father of India's Library Movement.A book exhibition was organized, showcasing a diverse range of genres including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and academic texts. The event celebrated literature from various cultures and languages, promoting inclusivity and a global perspective.In addition to browsing through the books and sharing their reflections, students took part in engaging activities such as solving riddles and a “reading without mistakes in 30 seconds” challenge.  These interactive elements added excitement to the event. Both students and faculty from various programmes participated enthusiastically, with a total of 40 students benefiting from the experience.

The Library Advisory Committee celebrated National Reading Day on Wednesday, 19th June, 2024. It is a day that honours the life and work of P. N. Panicker, who is widely regarded as the Father of India's Library Movement.A book exhibition was organised showcasing a wide range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and academic texts. The exhibition featured books from various cultures and languages, promoting inclusivity and a global perspective on literature.Students browsed through the books and shared their insights on them. The event saw enthusiastic participation from both students and teachers of various programmes. A total of 50 students benefited from the event.
 

Book Exhibition

The Library Advisory Committee commenced its activities for the Academic Year 2024-25 with Books Exhibition for learners of all programs.The two-day event was originally scheduled for Monday, 08th  July, 2024 and Tuesday, 09th July, 2024. However, Day Two was declared a holiday by the state government because of heavy rains alert. It was therefore observed the following day, on Wednesday, 10th July, 2024.The exhibition was declared open at 09.00 a.m. with the inauguration by   Dr. Poonam Kakkad, Vice-Principal, Coordinator of the IQAC, and BAF and BMS Departments. The attendees and visitors eagerly browsed through the books, journals, magazines  and other publications on both the days. Following are the categories of books that were on display in the exhibition: Fiction and Non-fiction, Business and Management, Literature,  Media, Advertising and Journalism, Competitive Exams, IT and Computers, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, General Knowledge, Health, Wellness, Yoga and Meditation and more.Besides an impressive array of publications, Treasure Hunt and documentary screening were also organised on Day One and Day Two respectively. 
Treasure Hunt- Treasure Hunt, an ever-popular and stimulating activity that tests one’s presence of mind, reasoning ability and agility, was conducted on Day 1. Participants were given clues hidden in secretive nooks and asked to unravel them in the library.76 learners visited the book exhibition on Day 1.
Documentary Screening- On Wednesday, 10th July, 2024, an informative documentary on Augmented Reality was shown in the College Library as part of documentary screening. Two sessions of screening were held to accommodate all the learners. A total of 124 learners were present for the screening for both the sessions.Total 200 leaners benefit from all programs

Certificate Distribution Ceremony

The Library Advisory Committee organized a Certificate Distribution Ceremony on Saturday, 4th May, 2024 to felicitate the Top Readers and Top Issuers for the academic year 2023-2024.

Book Exhibition

The Library Advisory Committee had organized a Book Exhibition on Thursday, 25 th January 2024. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of books, attracting a significant number of visitors and participants.
These are the following categories of books kept for display:
Competitive Books, Language learning books ,Recipe books ,Inter loan Library books, CyberSecurity books
With an objective of enhancing the Language skills of students,a competition on the topic Word Wizards: Enhancing Communication Skills through Games was organized in conjunction with the exhibition. A total of 19 participants enthusiastically took part in this competition, demonstrating their communication skills and creativity.
The winners of the competition are as follows:

2nd Place: Ms. Pearl Rebello (SYBMS)
3rd Place: Ms. Vaishvi Shah (SYBMS)
The event saw enthusiastic participation and the winners demonstrated commendable communication skills. The Library Advisory Committee extends its appreciation to all participants and looks forward to organizing more engaging events in the future.

Book Review Competition

In keeping with its commitment to instill among learners a passion for reading and making an expedition into the fascinating, vibrant world of books, The Library Advisory Committee organised a Book Review Competition on Tuesday, 22 August, 2023 in the college.

This year, the Book review Competition was created as a multi-lingual dais; learners were given the choice to review books in English, Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati.

25 voracious readers participated in the competition, wherein they reviewed their chosen books with utmost zeal, confidence and fascinating insights.

Ms. Asha Mhatre, renowned, award winning teacher, social activist, poetess, storyteller, motivational speaker, YouTuber, event organiser, language trainer and guide- well-versed in all the four languages,- presided over the competition as the Judge.

Held at the spacious venue- Block 311, the Book Review competition surely made its impact, which was making every person feel motivated to read more, in different languages too.

ENCHANTING PAGES- A SHOWCASE OF LITERARY TREASURES BOOKS EXHIBITION

The Library Advisory Committee organised Enchanting Pages- a Showcase of Literary Treasures Books Exhibition on Wednesday, 09 August, 2023, in the college.

The Exhibition commenced with inauguration done by I/C Principal Ms. Swiddle D'Cunha at 9.45 a.m. 

The event proceeded in full swing with the attendees and visitors browsing through the books, journals and other publications hailing from abroad spectrum of genres.

Quiz competition rounds based on books on display along with Spell Bee were also hosted at intervals for the learners, with winners getting rewarded with prizes.

Digital display of Library facilities was also set up at the venue for learners to know what benefits they can avail of.

The event met with an excited response as visitors appreciated the vast collection of publications, activities, information kiosk and more.

My Pen Says

The Library Advisory Committee organizes My Pen Says, a story writing competition  on Tuesday, 27st September, 2022. 

Participants were shown a set of objects and given hints, based on which they were asked to weave a creative story that makes an impact and is a complete whole. 

9 participants took part in the competition, which generated unique, engaging stories written.
